ANA National Money Show – Sacramento, Calif. – March 17-19, 2011
Report by John and Nancy Wilson.
Thank you Sacramento NMS – The ANA National Money Show (NMS) was held on March 17-19, 2011 at the Sacramento Convention Center. It was another successful coin show that had lots going on for everyone who attended. Public attendance and dealer business seemed pretty steady. ANA was in Sacramento in 1999, and this time around it appeared the area had improved with more hotels, restaurants and things to do.
Lots of people did a great job in preparing and running this NMS. Thanks to General Chairman Jeff Shevlin and his committee – along with the host – Sacramento Valley Coin Club; the ANA National Volunteers; Executive Director Larry Shepherd and his staff; Convention Director Rhonda Scurek; President Cliff Mishler and the Board; ANA Museum Showcase; the Official Program & Mementos; the exhibitors, judges, speakers and scout clinic instructors; YN Programs, Treasure Trivia & Kids Zone; Kickoff Dinner & Wine Tasting tour, SVCC Dinner on the Delta King (Riverboat) and Mining & Minting in Carson City Seminar; publicity and security personnel; U.S. Mint, Post Office (and Special Cancellation) and FedEx; Numismatic News, Coin World and COINage; Coin Club tables; Heritage Auction Galleries; the dealers with tables; the visitors; and all the sponsors – who helped to make this NMS the huge success it was. Thank you all.
Response from General Chairman Jeff Shevlin.
Thank you John and Nancy for the thoughtful letter. The volunteers from the Sacramento Valley Coin Club and the chairpersons helping organize the event all really appreciate hearing that they did a great job. It was a very organized and well run convention. The ANA staff and SVCC volunteers partnered together and it was an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Thank you.
ANA Convention – Chicago, Illinois – August 16-20, 2011
Report by James Reinders.
The awards banquet at the Chicago convention was on Friday evening, August 19, 2011.
PNNA and Willamette Coin Club member Katie Reinders was awarded the “BEST YN EXHIBIT” award at the banquet, which carries a Summer Seminar Scholarship as a prize. Katie’s exhibit, “Happy Birthday Oregon,” was an updated and expanded version of what she exhibited at the PNNA Spring convention in Tukwila. Comments from the judges at PNNA were very helpful in Katie’s rework to beat out some other incredible YN exhibits at the summer show in Chicago. Cliff Mishler and she talked for a long time about her exhibit earlier in the day and again after the award. Walt Ostromecki was installed as the new ANA Vice President. Walt will join the PNNA and WCC at the October show in Portland as usual. Photo (below): Walt (left) during the installation.
ANA Convention – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – August 7-11, 2012
Report by John and Nancy Wilson, ANA National Volunteers, Ocala, Fla.
Thank You ANA WFOM Philadelphia 2012
The American Numismatic Association (ANA) World’s Fair of Money (WFOM) Convention held in Philadelphia, Pa., at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, on August 7-11, 2012 was highly successful in activity, public attendance and the size of the bourse. We have to go back to the ANA conventions in Philadelphia 2000, and Chicago 1991 to find comparable attendance. From the opening ceremonies to the close of the show on Saturday, bourse dealers appeared to be kept busy with customers.
EVERYTHING in regards to the show appeared to be outstanding and MS-70. The convention had a large and busy bourse, a mega Stack’s Bowers auction, excellent exhibits (including the Museum Showcase) and educational programs, Sponsor’s and Patrons, top notch PPI security, exceptional tours and banquets, YN and Boy Scout activities, coin club tables and meetings, World Mints and Bureau’s, eBay table, souvenirs including an elongated rolling machine (TEC Booth), a great Official Program, terrific media coverage and PR work, the Numismatic Press including Numismatic News, Coin World and COINage, and all the grading services. Thank you to the 43rd Treasurer of the U.S., Rosa “Rosie” Gumataotao Rios for attending the convention and signing autographs. We consider her the best Treasurer of the U.S. since Mary Ellen Withrow. She is a true friend of all coin collectors. Thanks to all the aforementioned for their hard work and dedication.
Thanks also to General Chairman Kerry Wetterstrom, his committee and the host Red Rose Coin Club volunteers and members (wearing red ANA shirts). Kudos’ to ANA Executive Director Jeff Shevlin, Convention Director Rhonda Scurek and the entire ANA staff, President Tom Hallenbeck and the Board along with the National Volunteers. Thanks again to everyone for their many contributions who helped to make this a highly successful convention. We hope to see you at a future ANA coin convention.
