The original 1820 Northwest Company "beaver" tokens were made in both brass and bronze. See below regarding "all bronze" versus "bronzed center" on the 1950 medals.

These two specimens from the Mikat collection, taken under identical lighting, illustrate the apparent difference between the all-bronze medal and the brass medal with bronzed center. The all-bronze piece (left) is slightly heavier (24.2 vs. 23.8 grams).
