PNNA 3rd Q 2022 edition of The Nor’wester

The 3rd Quarter 2022 edition of the PNNA’s publication, The Nor’wester, is now available online at https://pnna.org/news/pdf/PNNAnews2022_Q3.pdf.

As announced herein, there will be only two main editions of The Nor’wester each year, for the spring convention and the fall coin show. The other two editions will be short letters like this edition. This change will allow the two main editions to have more pages, more articles and stories, more photos, and additional dealer ads if requested. There will be plenty of copies printed for distribution at shows, clubs and other events such as the Fair. Please start writing your content for the main editions now!

Summary of other 3rd Quarter content:

  • PNNA President’s message by Ed Fischer.
  • A message about the Washington State (Puyallup) Fair by Richard Schulz. Please volunteer!
  • Brief mentions of the PNNA and Willamette fall coin shows, whch will be covered in the next (4th Q) edition.
  • PNNA spring convention news – awards, collector exhibits (unfortunately none at this event), board installation and links to meeting minutes.

Back issues of The Nor’wester are available online.

Once again, thank you for your interest in the PNNA!

Sincerely,
Eric Holcomb

Penny Press Travels East

In the past ten years I have traveled with the PNNA’s penny press to club shows up and down the I-5 corridor. Not once in all that time has the penny press made it over the Cascades – until now. Thanks to the efforts of Alan Franke, the press and I were invited to the Coeur d’Alene Coin Club show, May 14-15, 2022. Alan also arranged to have a die picturing the club logo made and available when I got there. The show was a big success and was well attended. I cranked out around 250 elongated cents during the two-day show.

I’d like to thank Alan for his efforts as well as Coeur d’Alene Coin Club president Steve Harvie and other CDACC members in attendance for the very warm welcome they gave me and the press throughout the weekend.  I look forward to coming back to future shows. – Rick Schulz.

Washington State Centennial Medals

Washington State Centennial Medal
Washington State Centennial Medal

In the autumn of 2019, the PNNA gave away the last of its hoard of Washington State Centennial Medals. It soon became apparent that a lot of folks had put together collections that fell a few pieces short of completion. [The complete set includes the state medal depicted above plus medals for each county.] To help people in this situation we established a clearing agent that would help connect those with extra medals with those who needed medals. This program was announced in the 2020 first-quarter issue of The Nor’wester. After a few logistical issues were resolved it looked like the program would be a success. Then the coronavirus struck and a lot of things were put on the back burner. Now it’s time to revive the Medals Clearing Agent program.

To take advantage of this program, simply email a list of the medals you need and a list of extra medals you’re willing to trade (see below). PNNA board member Tony Kalt, our clearing agent, will notify you of any matches, so that you can make arrangements to get together (perhaps at a major coin show). This is first-come, first-serve. The first person to get their list in will receive the first medals available. Once no additional want lists are received for a period of time the program will be discontinued. So, put together your lists and send them now. This may be your last opportunity to fill in your set! – Update by Rick Schulz.

2024 update – If you are still interested in this program, email info@pnna.org, and it will be forwarded to Tony and/or Rick. (Or inquire at the spring convention and coin show.)
